FROM POVERTY AND PAIN TO PURPOSE AND LEGACY.

A Story of Survival,
Faith, Purpose & Legacy

Some lives are shaped by opportunity. Others are forged through survival.

Harold Lewis grew up surrounded by poverty, instability, hunger, neglect, alcoholism, violence, and circumstances that could easily have determined the rest of his life.

They didn’t.

From a childhood spent learning how to survive to twenty-six years of military service in the United States Marine Corps and Army, Harold’s journey carried him across more than twenty countries and placed him close to moments that changed history. But his greatest accomplishment was not found on a battlefield.

It was building the family, faith, purpose, and life he once had no reason to believe were possible.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Meet Harold Lewis

Harold Lewis’s life began far from the stability he would eventually create.

Raised through poverty, family instability, neglect, violence, hunger, and frequent moves, he learned endurance early. Books, history, the outdoors, work, and eventually military service gave him places to channel the determination that had helped him survive childhood.

At seventeen, he entered the United States Marine Corps. He later transitioned to the United States Army and ultimately completed twenty-six years of military service.

THE BOOK

The Boy Who Wouldn’t Break

The Boy Who Wouldn’t Break is not a story about pretending the past never happened.

It is about carrying the past without allowing it to dictate the future.

Harold Lewis takes readers from a childhood marked by family upheaval, poverty, foster care, abuse, hunger, constant relocation, and an early burden of responsibility into a military life that offered something his childhood rarely had: structure, identity, belonging, and purpose.

At seventeen, the Marine Corps became part of that transformation. Later, after leaving the Corps and discovering how deeply he missed the structure and identity of service, Harold entered the Army and began another chapter of military life.

SURVIVAL
